3 tips for making the most of the Vintage Barn Market in Chilliwack

You don’t have to grow up in a “small town” to know how important a sense of community is for your well-being.

When Larissa Garcia and Bree Mader created the Vintage Barn Market, it was that feeling of belonging and pride for the place where they grew up that they wanted to capture.

With more than 110 carefully curated vendors selling vintage, handmade and pop-up items, and more than 5,000 shoppers, the Vintage Barn Market in Chilliwack is certainly the best the Fraser Valley has to offer.

“Our first love and our ultimate vision for this market has always been vintage, so that’s very important to us,” says Mader. “However, as the market has grown, we’ve really expanded our vendor list by adding refurbished furniture, handmade/artisans, and pop-up shops.”

You’ll find everything from vintage clothes and jewelry to soy candles, organic soaps, home décor, and more. The place is packed with unique gifts perfect to start sourcing for the holidays.

“We wanted to bring something exciting and new to Chilliwack [because] we want to have a community that supports one another,” says Garcia. “We all have big beautiful ideas and our vendors are people who are thinking outside of the box and taking huge risks in business. Those are the people we want to support and encourage. Our market is their market.”

How to make make the most of the Vintage Barn Market:

1. Get it before it’s gone. Come early to Chilliwack Heritage Park on Oct. 28, 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. and Oct. 29, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

2. Have a list and an open mind. The Vintage Barn Market is like falling down a rabbit hole into a world of creation and fashion and décor and trinkets and vintage galore and glitter and – you get the point. Expect to be inspired.

3. Bring a bag and cash. The chance to buy anything your heart desires while supporting local? It’s a win-win.

For the two Chilliwack-raised girls – who consider themselves best friends first and business partners second – this venture is about more than just a creating a market.

“We are so passionate about Chilliwack. We think it is the most amazing community of people and we both wouldn’t want to live anywhere else,” says Mader. “There are so many great local businesses here and the market really has allowed us to support local families in ways we could have never imagined.”
