He’s made a difference as city councillor and that’s why he should be mayor, says Waddington

A series of mayoralty video profiles has been produced by The Progress to prepare Chilliwack voters ahead of the Oct. 20 election.

Interview questions for all five candidates tackled affordable housing, crime, economic development, and why citizens should vote for them.

Sam Waddington said citizens of Chilliwack should elect him mayor because he’s made a difference on council.

“I have shown that over the last four years on council that on every single file that I have touched, I have made a difference,” Waddington said.

“I have shifted policy in way that’s affected people’s lifestyles in a positive way, and I am proud of the work that I’ve done.”

Waddington describes his approach as “measured and reasoned” and he has worked to address the specific needs of the community.

But what he won’t do, is prop up the status quo.

“There is no reason to continue doing what we are doing unless it truly is the best path forward. So prove it to me. Show me the data. Show me the numbers.”

If the RCMP model needs to shift, or a new style of road-building is needed, he has no qualms about finding a better way.

“We need to be able to think about our community in a very different way,” he said. “And I want Chilliwack Chilliwack residents to be proud of our city. I want us to go outside of our municipality and people to envy the lifestyle that we have hear, and to look to moving here.”

New solutions are needed.

“Chilliwack is ready to move in a different direction, and to become the municipality that we very much can be, and I think I’m the best one to lead that forward.”
