Personal bests were aplenty for the three Sardis Fliers Speed Skating Club members who competed at the B.C. Cup in Richmond recently.

Alexandra Mueller, Felix Dennill, and Carter Rae all qualified to race in this two-day event. The Fliers not only raced against other high-performance skaters but they teamed up with skaters from all over province in their relays teams.

The Fliers were led by 12-year-old Mueller, who earned a silver medal in the youth division. Mueller fought her way to the podium, shaving valuable seconds off her personal best times. Over the weekend, she had four personal best times in five distances.

The B.C. Cup was the first provincial level meet for 10-year-old Dennill. At each race, Dennill dropped seconds off his personal best times, while gaining valuable racing experience.

"It was chaos but so much fun,” he said, adding that competing in his first relay was the highlight for him.

Rae skated in the junior division and crushed his personal best times in his 1500-metre, 500-metre, and 1000-metre races. Rae finished the meet placing eighth place in his division.

The Sardis skaters are coached by Keven Fitzpatrick, last session’s recipient of British Columbia Speed Skating Association’s Competitive Coach of the Year and Builder Award recipient. Next on the calendar is the Jingle Bell Cup in Ridge Meadows, where Sardis Fliers newest competitors, Toby Sigaty, Taiga Langlois, and Denis Langlois will represent the Fliers against clubs from the Lower Mainland.

The Sardis Fliers are always looking for new members. They skate on Tuesday and Thursday from 4:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Sardis Sports Complex Rink 1.
