Fraser Valley East has new basketball champs.
Sardis secondary’s Grade 9 boys overtook G.W. Graham in the championship game Feb. 7, and in doing so, made Sardis Falcons athletics history.
Coach Kyle Graves said the Falcons team brought home the first ever basketball banner for the school. And there is still plenty of basketball season left.
”These boys have worked extremely hard over the last three months and now go into Fraser Valley playoffs looking to make provincials for the first time for a Grade 9 Sardis team,” Graves said. “The boys are now 26 - 4 on the season.”
As for the championship game, it ended 57-45. Landon Pomeranz led the team in scoring with 21 points while playing lock-down defence. Alex Brzezinski, Josh Roux and Ixara Forstbauer all hit double digits in scoring.
“It was a team victory on all fronts,” Graves added. “These boys have been putting in work all year to improve their skills but more importantly have come together to work for each other and have truly developed as a team. We are fortunate to have some players who have the potential to become big time players in the future and we are excited to see the development of this team in the next three years.”
