Kids, young golfers – and even some adults – poured into Chilliwack’s downtown streets for a very unique golf lesson Wednesday morning (July 3).
Abbotsford PGA golfer Nick Taylor was on-hand as District 1881’s Courtyard was transformed into a mini-putting green where he was helping youngsters work on their putting game. Kids lined up as the four-time Tour-winner helped them read their putts before having a go at the hole.
After a few warmups from a shorter distance, balls were moved back to exactly 72-feet – the distance of putt the Abbotsford product drained to win last year's Canadian Open in Toronto, ON.
Many stuck around to enjoy free hot dogs, snap some pictures and meet the 36-year-old who took the opportunity to bring some attention to the cause at-hand.
“Honoured to be here in beautiful downtown Chilliwack today,” said Taylor. “Should be a fun day and obviously it’s for a great cause.”
The event officially kick-started a fundraising campaign put on by Canadian Tire’s JumpStart working in partnership with the Chilliwack Community Services and The First Tee. The fundraiser’s goal is to help raise money to support local youth in pursuing recreational sports.
