This weekend will be Chilliwack's last chance to catch their hometown men's rugby team in action before playoffs.
The Chilliwack Crusaders will take on Richmond Rugby Football Club on home turf at Yarrow Sportsfield on Saturday (April 5) in their final regular-season game.
The local team is currently in eighth place in the BC Rugby Union's Men's Division 2, while Richmond sits in fourth place. The Crusaders hold a current record of 13 games played with five wins and eight loses.
After Saturday's game, they head to Kamloops for the quarter-final round of playoffs on April 12, where they are the eighth seed out of eight teams.
"We might be in last place right now, but that just means the only way is up," said player Tyrone Brown. "The road to the finals is steep, but this team is no stranger to tough battles."
The semi-finals are on April 26, and finals are May 3, with all teams (men's and women's) playing in Abbotsford.
The Chilliwack Crusaders women's team just missed the playoff cut this season, finishing 10th out of 13 teams.
"They had the best season in history this year, with five wins, five loses, and one draw," Brown said. "They had a really good chance of making playoffs but unfortunately due to the cold snap we had this winter, they weren’t able to play off of their games, leading to them missing out on points per game."
As the men's team heads into playoffs, Brown is keeping a positive outlook.
"We’ve been training hard, staying focused, and pushing each other every step of the way. With the heart and grit this group has, I truly believe we’ve got the guys to make miracles happen."
Chilliwack fans can catch the Crusaders men's team Saturday, April 5 at Yarrow Sportfield. Kickoff is at 12:45 p.m.
