The Chilliwack Crusaders wrapped up their regular season with a huge win on the weekend.
The local men's rugby team beat the Richmond Rugby Football Club 69-5 on home turf at Yarrow Sportsfield on Saturday (April 5). Going into the game, the Crusaders were eighth place in the BC Rugby Union's Men's Division 2, while Richmond was in fourth.
Next up, the Crusaders head to Kamloops for the quarter-final round of playoffs on April 12, where they are the eighth seed out of eight teams.
The Crusaders' women's team is also heading to playoffs that same day, after unexpectedly being bumped up in the Women's Division 2 rankings.
Initially, the team did not make it to playoffs after finishing 10th out of 15 teams, but two teams dropped out for unknown reasons, said Crusaders member Tyrone Brown.
Those teams were the fifth-ranked Cowichan RFC, and James Bay AA in seventh place.
"That bumped our women's team up to eighth," Brown said.
It is the second time the women's team has made it into playoffs. The last time they were in the playoffs was in 2022.
The women will be playing the number-one seeded team in their division, the UBC Thunderbirds on Saturday, April 12 at Gerald McGavin Centre at the University of B.C.
