People were injured in a two-vehicle crash on Highway 1 near Yale Road in Chilliwack Friday morning.
The vehicles – a full-size commercial van and a small car – collided, then both rolled over and one burst into flames, just west of the Yale Road West exit on Nov. 22 around 9:15 a.m., according to RCMP's BC Highway Patrol.
Responders including Chilliwack Fire Department, RCMP and B.C. Ambulance rushed to the scene where the van was on fire in the eastbound lane while the car was upside-down in the westbound lane.
Everyone was out of the vehicles by about 9:30 a.m. and there were no hazardous materials on-board, according to reports. There was oil and diesel leaking onto the highway.
"Our officers are working hard to determine the cause of the incident and we can confirm that there were injuries," said Cpl. Michael McLaughlin with BC Highway Patrol.
One lane was open in each direction by about 10 a.m. Just before 11 a.m., all four lanes of traffic were open, according to DriveBC.
BC Highway Patrol is requesting anyone with dash-cam footage or who witnessed the crash to contact BC Highway Patrol officers in Chilliwack by calling 604-702-4039.
NOTE: An earlier version of this story stated that both vehicles went up in flames. The Chilliwack Progress regrets the error and any confusion it may have caused.
