Chilliwack Fire Department crews were called out to a vacant house fire on McGuire Road early on Halloween morning (Oct. 31).

The fire is under investigation by the Chilliwack Fire Department and RCMP after the structure sustained "significant" fire and smoke damage.

"At approximately 4:30am this morning the Chilliwack Fire Department was dispatched to a reported house fire located in the 47000 block of McGuire Road," said Fire Chief Andy Brown.

Thirty-two firefighters responded from Halls 1, 2, 4, 5 and 6 to find heavy smoke and flames venting from the house, which was "vacant at the time of the fire."

"Initial arriving crews quickly began a defensive fire attack while securing a water supply to bring the fire under control."

They put it out, containing the flames and smoke damage to the building of origin, but it sustained "significant fire and smoke damage."

Anyone with information about this fire is asked to call the RCMP at 604-792-4611 or anonymously through Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or www.upperfraservalleycrimestoppers.ca
