UPDATE: Power restored 12 hours after single-vehicle crash in Chilliwack

Vehicle hit hydro pole which caused widespread power outage, road closure in Chilliwack

A single-vehicle crash caused a power outage in a residential area of Chilliwack, which took more than 12 hours for crews to restore.

The crash took place on Ashwell Road just before midnight (April 21), with a car hitting a power pole north of Hodgins Avenue.

The original power outage affected a larger portion of the city stretching to Chilliwack Mountain, but by morning (April 22) it was reduced to about 850 customers. As of 6:30 a.m., BC Hydro was estimating the power to be restored by 2 p.m.

Ashwell Road was closed between Hodgins Avenue/Wolfe Road and Jackson Street as a result.

By 12:37 p.m., power had been restored, but a portion of Ashwell Road was still closed.
