UPDATE:
As of 3:15 p.m., both westbound lanes and one eastbound lane were open to traffic.
ORIGINAL STORY:
Highway 1 was closed in both directions in Chilliwack for a semi truck crash, according to DriveBC Friday (Nov. 8) at 7:35 a.m.
Reports came in early Friday morning of a serious incident on Highway 1 at the east end of Chilliwack by Hack-Brown Road just before 6 a.m.
"A vehicle incident east of Annis Rd. has the highway closed in both directions," according to the update. "Assessment in progress. Detours available. Expect delays."
It was reported that the driver of the semi was not seriously injured.
Drivers were being re-routed at Annis Road after emergency responders were called to the scene in the westbound lane near Hack-Brown Road between Annis Road and Highway 9. It involved a semi truck on its side across the all four lanes of the highway.
"Expect delays and watch for crews," said the initial notification at about 6 a.m.
The update had details about detours: "Westbound detour: Exit 135 (Bridal Falls) to Highway 9. Eastbound detour: Exit 129 (Annis Road) to Yale Road."
By 10 a.m., crews had removed the centre barriers to allow eastbound semi trucks through via the westbound lanes that had been stopped since the crash. All other traffic caught on the highway by the crash had been turned around earlier in the morning.
Some motorists were reporting that the detour added an hour and a half to their drive.
The next update from DriveBC is expected at 3 p.m.
UPDATE: A three-vehicle crash took place shortly after 9 a.m. in the eastbound lanes near the Gibson Road flyover. Everyone was out of their vehicles when crews arrived.
