Road work on Mary Street and Knight Road in Chilliwack will result in new bike lanes.
The projects include storm drainage, resurfacing and paving works as part of City of Chilliwack's plans to improve active transportation.
"Work on Mary Street is underway," according to the City of Chilliwack's web page on both projects. "The contractor is completing storm drainage works and paving."
Angle parking is being replaced by parallel parking on part of Mary Street to make room for the buffered on-street bike lanes, and eventually it's going to mean 21 fewer parking spaces from Hocking to Wellington.
Crews are at work in the stretch of Knight Road from Evans Road to east of Topaz Drive, and on Mary Street from Hodgins Avenue to Princess Avenue.
Both are contributing to active transportation infrastructure and accessibility improvements along these corridors.
The works were tendered and awarded under the two-for-one 2024 'Active Transportation-Knight & Mary Cycling Improvements Project'.
Installation of pedestrian bulges at two intersections, and some new lighting installation is completed on Mary. The project is slated to be completed for the end of October.
