A record-breaking temperature of 36C was recorded in Chilliwack Tuesday (July 9) after several days of sweltering heat.
The daily record high maximum of 36.0C was almost 12 degrees above normal, according to Roger Pannett, Chilliwack's volunteer weather observer for Environment & Climate Change Canada.
"It was the hottest day since the 36.5C on July 29, 2022," Pannett said in his record temperature report.
The previous daily record for July 9 was 33C in 2010.
The low temperature also hit a daily record for the "high minimum" or low of 18.8C, whereas the previous one was 17.1C in 2012.
Pannett said Tuesday marked the fifth day of a heat wave in Chilliwack with more than 30-degree days, including the fourth consecutive day of over 32C.
It was day 9 of "dry, sunny weather" with low humidity levels down to 22 per cent.
"The above normal temperatures and drought conditions will continue," Pannett said.
Tuesday's air quality reading was at 5, a moderate health risk.
