A proposal to transform the Chilliwack Fire Department's fire training building into a "fully functioning" training facility is expected to cost more than $409,000.
The City of Chilliwack had been seeking qualified proponents in a request for proposals (RFP) process, and council approved Gerry Enns Contracting at the Nov. 5 council meeting.
The plan is to update the existing building on Wolfe Road, including exterior and interior improvements, for current and future use by the Chilliwack Fire Department.
With the recent growth Chilliwack has experienced, "the renovation of this existing building will provide space for present and future fire training needs," the staff report explained.
The project will see the renovation of a "building shell" with a main floor area almost 2,400 square feet.
Renovation will include:
• Offices & Storage spaces
• Meeting & Kitchen Spaces
• Upper Mezzanine
• Washrooms
• Workshop
• Truck Bay
Improvements building exterior include:
• 2nd floor landing and stairs
• New windows and door
The reno also includes new electrical, data, security, plumbing, heating and ventilation systems.
"The technical proposals were evaluated by a five (5) member team and determined that the three proposals received generally met the requirements of the RFP," the report stated about the short-listed contractors.
"The City's Treasury Department provided and opened the financial proposals at the conclusion of the technical evaluation."
Three responses to the RFP were received by the closing date of Sept. 25 by short-listed proponents: West Alliance Construction Ltd, n.Wallace & Company Ltd., and Gerry Enns Contracting Ltd.
The staff recommendation was that council accept the proposal for the "Fire Training Grounds Building Renovation Project" from the preferred proponent Gerry Enns Contracting Ltd., in the amount of $409,693 and council approved staff recommendation at the Nov. 5 meeting.
