UPDATE: Police call incident in Sardis 'suspicious occurrence' with no risk to public safety

UPDATE:

The Chilliwack RCMP released a statement saying the event in the 7500 block of Vedder Road is a "suspicious occurrence" and they aren't releasing any more details at this time. 

They did confirm they are working alongside the RCMP's Serious Crime Unit in the investigation. 

"As of 3 p.m., on April 21, 2025, Chilliwack RCMP officers along with the Serious Crime Unit are actively investigating a suspicious occurrence in behind the 7500 block of Vedder Road," the release stated. "There is no active risk to the public." 

They are asking the public to stay away from the area to allow officers to further their investigation.

ORIGINAL STORY: 

A police incident caused road closures and the temporary closure of at least one Chilliwack business, at about noon on April 21. 

Social media users were reporting that police are focused on an area along Knight Road in Sardis, and at the old Canadian Tire building. At one point, Knight Road was reported to be closed from Vedder Road to Chilliwack River Road. 

A police tent has been put up in the area by the train tracks at Knight Road. 

The Sardis Bottle Depot has also been temporarily closed.
