No one inside an apartment building was injured when an SUV crashed into it on Mary Street in Chilliwack Tuesday evening.
The incident happened around 6:10 p.m. on March 4, just north of Hocking Avenue. Residents were inside the unit when it happened, but were not in the room where the vehicle plowed into, according to the building manager on scene.
The male driver of the vehicle was taken to hospital for assessment.
More than 14 hours after the collision happened, the vehicle was still at site with its front end inside the building. Bricks could be seen scattered on the grass and on top of the vehicle.
The SUV hit a support beam and an engineer had been called to assess the structural damage of the building before the SUV could be removed.
The 53-year-old apartment has 11 units. The five units on the east end of the building, where the vehicle hit, were evacuated.
"At this time, there is no indication of impairment and the cause of the collision remains under investigation. Structural assessments are underway to determine the extent of the damage to the building. Victim Services has been engaged to assist with relocation of evacuated residences," RCMP stated in a March 5 press release.
Anyone with information or dashcam footage related to the incident is asked to contact Chilliwack RCMP at 604-792-4611, and quote file #2025-8470.
The Chilliwack Progress has reached out to RCMP for more information.
