Emergency responders were called to the train crossing at Eagle Landing Parkway on Wednesday morning (June 5) after a report of a pedestrian struck.

“Upon arrival, Chilliwack RCMP officers located a deceased male in the area that had suffered injuries consistent with being struck by a train,” said Sgt. Carmen Kiener, media spokesperson.

A freight train had been forced to stop in Chilliwack, with fire crews and police arriving on either side of the tracks at about 8:20 a.m. on near Eagle Landing Parkway.

RCMP say the male victim has not been named by police and his identity will not be released, as officers endeavour to notify the next of kin.

The BC Coroners Service will be working with Chilliwack RCMP to determine what led to this fatal incident.

The roadway and train crossing will be closed as police continue the investigation.
