Part of Prest road closed for culvert replacement in Chilliwack

City of Chilliwack is warning motorists about the partial road closure and detour on Prest until Sept. 11

A section of Prest Road will be closed for construction with a detour in place starting this week.

The City of Chilliwack put out notification and a map about the partial road closure from Aug. 26 to Sept. 11, which will have traffic impacts.

"The purpose of the closure is for the aging culvert crossing Interception Ditch that needs to be replaced to accommodate the future Prest Road widening," said the city notice.

The massive multi-phase widening project on Prest with roundabouts, has been underway in phases since 2015, with development cost charges footing the more than $30-million bill for road improvements in subsequent decades.

Prest Road between Bailey Road and McGuire Road will be completely closed and a detour will be in place for this project. Only local traffic will have access. Folks are being asked to follow detour signage and directions from flaggers.

Existing corrugated steel arch pipes are set to be replaced with a 3 metre x 2.4 metre concrete box culvert.

This project is scheduled during the permitted fisheries window and is being undertaken now to reduce the impact to traffic next year when this area undergoes further construction for road widening.
