A safe-ride program in Chilliwack is in need of more volunteers this holiday season.
Operation Red Nose, a campaign that helps people get home safely, has a shortage of volunteers this year.
It's a service offered on weekends throughout December and on New Year's Eve, a time when more people are out celebrating the holidays. People who’ve had too much to drink, or are too tired to drive can call Chilliwack Operation Red Nose to get a safe ride home.
How it works is, when someone needs a ride and calls Operation Red Nose, a team of three is dispatched to them in a volunteer vehicle. One person will drive the customer’s vehicle to their home, and the other two volunteers (a driver and a navigator) are in a volunteer vehicle along with the person they’re bringing home.
It is a free service, but organizers are accepting donations to Chilliwack Restorative Justice.

Those who need a safe ride home can call the Operation Red Nose ride service at 604-392-2292. It is offered from 8:30 p.m. to 3 a.m. on Dec. 6, 7, 13, 14, 19, 20, 21, and 31.
