Memorial will honour Chilliwack's homeless who died in 2024

Ruth and Naomi's Not Forgotten Memorial a 'reminder of our shared humanity and the value of every life'

People are invited to gather and remember some of Chilliwack's most vulnerable people who died over the past year.

Ruth and Naomi's is hosting its annual Not Forgotten Memorial – a candlelight service honouring homeless people who have died in Chilliwack in 2024 – on Dec. 19 in the parking lot at Ann Davis Transition Society.

“Our annual Not Forgotten Memorial honours the lives of our unhoused neighbours who have passed away this year. It’s a reminder of our shared humanity and the value of every life," said executive director Scott Gaglardi.

"We hope this event will foster compassion, raise awareness about the systemic issues surrounding homelessness, and inspire our community not to walk by, but to continue working toward solutions that affirm the dignity of all.”

The event is set for Thursday, Dec. 19 at Ann Davis Transition Society (9046 Young Rd.) from 6:30 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. It will be held outside.

Everyone is welcome to attend and other social service providers will be involved as well. In 2023, about 50 people attended.

"Last year was a very meaningful time together and we hope that this year, more people from the community will join us," said Cheryl Giesbrecht with Ruth and Naomi's.
