UPDATE: Dog found after Ryder Lake house fire in Chilliwack

Dog found after it bolted in wake of house fire that severely burned man in Ryder Lake

Two people were injured and a dog named Simba went missing after a house fire in Ryder Lake Wednesday.

The dog has since been found.

Chilliwack Fire Department was called to a house fire in the 5000 block of Sherlaw Road on Nov. 13 just after 3 p.m.

When crews arrived on scene, it was a “fully involved” structure fire.

Thanks to firefighters the damage was contained to the building and a single vehicle.

While en route, crews spotted a column of smoke rising.

"That, along with caller information, prompted an immediate upgrade to a second alarm," reported assistant fire chief Krista Minar in release.

Firefighters from Halls 1, 2, 4, 5, attended and upon arrival found smoke and flames coming from a single-family residence.

"Both occupants had evacuated but had sustained injuries."

One person was transported by air-ambulance, the other was taken to hospital via ground transport with BC Ambulance Service.

"Firefighters quickly established a water supply and began aggressively attacking the fire to minimize structural damage. BCEHS provided care for the occupants, who were later transported to the hospital."

Victim services were available on scene, and Emergency Support Services was called in to provide further assistance. The RCMP were also on scene to provide support.

No injuries to firefighters were reported.

"Both family pets made it out of the home; one has been accounted for, while the other is still loose in the area."

Simba is a young, shy, Pyrenees cross with a camo collar that went missing and was found.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
