The annual Shred-a-thon and Food Drive event is Dec. 7 outside the Chilliwack Coliseum.

Free document shredding for Chilliwack residents is coming to the parking lot of the Chilliwack Coliseum on Dec. 7.

It's the annual Shred-A-Thon and Food Drive Event from City of Chilliwack, starting at 10:30 a.m. with donations to the Chilliwack Salvation Army Food Bank graciously accepted.

Residents of Chilliwack can show up to the event with their residential shredding materials, up to a maximum of 10 boxes per household, all no larger than banker box size.

Before handing over their papers to be shredded, all plastic binding and plastic combs, metal hanging folders or other metal objects must be removed or folks may be asked to remove them on-site at the event. Staples and paper clips are OK.

For anyone with more than 10 boxes worth of material they are asked to please hold off until the next Shred-A-Thon event or use any of the retailer shredding services listed below:
• UPS Store (8 - 6014 Vedder Rd)
• UPS Store (Southgate 9 - 45905 Yale Rd)
• Staples (101 - 7491 Vedder Rd)

Shredders are asked to also bring donations for the Salvation Army Food Bank, either cash donations or non-perishable food items.

Residents can also donate directly to the Salvation Army so they can continue running the food bank and other services at the The Salvation Army - Chilliwack.

Donations are not mandatory for taking part in the Shred-A-Thon.
