The drones will return for Chilliwack's Canada Day celebrations this year.
The City of Chilliwack have announced that the show will the Clearview Demolition Drone Show will be at Exhibition Field, adding a dramatic end to a day of family fun.
Last year was first time drones were used, instead of the usual fireworks show that would cap off the July 1 festivities. An estimated 7,000 people filled Exhibition Field and the grandstands at The Landing to watch the show, which used about 180 drones.
Images created by the drones last year included several iconic landmarks and pieces of Chilliwack's history including the clock tower at Five Corners, a cob of corn, an Indigenous drum, and a paddlewheeler.
The July 1 festivities begin with a pancake breakfast at Evergreen Hall (9291 Corbould St.) from 8 a.m. to11 a.m., provided by Sardis Kiwanis. The cost is $10 per person or $25 per family.
Free activities planned for the day include free skate times at the Chilliwack Coliseum (1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.) and Sardis Sports Complex (10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.), and free admission to the Chilliwack Museum from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The city is also offering Toonie swims at the Landing Leisure Centre (10 a.m. to 12 p.m.) or the Cheam Leisure Centre (1 p.m. to 3 p.m.).
Then, at 5 p.m., the action is all Exhibition Field (9145 Corbould Street), with live music and entertainment on the Save-On Foods Stage, food trucks, and a variety of family-friendly activities, including the RE/MAX Kids and Tots Zone. The stage show will be emceed by Trevor McDonald, and performers include the Wes Anderson Trio (jazz), Turquoiser (indie), the Stan Giles Band (country), Lounge Hounds with Steve 'Elvis' Elliot, and Reckless, the 'Ultimate Bryan Adams Tribute.'
