With a wintery mix of weather in Chilliwack, Cyrus Centre officials temporarily increased the age of youth they can shelter from the cold.
"Winter is here, and for youth without stable housing, it can be brutal," according to a post Jan. 31 from Cyrus Centre Ministries.
With no Extreme Weather Response (EWR) shelter beds available in Chilliwack this year, the need for support of unhoused youth is "greater than ever," when the temperature drops.
Cyrus Centre offers services to youth 24/7 including meals, nine beds, and other services in the facility on Wellington Avenue.
"To help meet the growing need, we are temporarily extending our age limit from 24 to 26," the Cyrus Centre post said.
"So if you - or someone you know - needs a warm place to go, we’re here."
They offer hot meals daily with no need to call ahead, "just come by at mealtime!"
For those in need of warm clothes or other supports their outreach team will be checking in on youth around the city so they can share resources.
Cyrus Centre is at 45845 Wellington Avenue in downtown Chilliwack.
"This winter, let’s make sure no youth is left out in the cold."
