Organizers of the local Christmas Bird Counts posted some highlights from the events conducted in Chilliwack and Harrison as they worked to finalize results for 2023.

A few birds of note were reported from the birdwatchers counting birds in their backyards, or while they were on established 24-kilometre circle routes.

“Thanks to all who participated in the Harrison and Chilliwack Christmas Bird Counts,” said organizers on the Nature Chilliwack page. “As the results come in, they will be tabulated.”

On the Chilliwack count, birders found a white-breasted nuthatch, a Harris’s sparrow, and a rusty blackbird on Dec. 16.

Other highlights included a golden eagle and some Bohemian waxwings.

For the Harrison count on Dec. 14, a long-tailed duck and a gray-crowned rosy-finch were spotted as well as a golden eagle and several shrikes.

“Good spotting, folks!”
