Chilliwack Players Guild donates $10,000 for theatre seating upgrades

Money will go to seating at Rotary Hall Studio Theatre inside Chilliwack Cultural Centre

A local theatre group is helping out the very venue that it uses for its performances at the Chilliwack Cultural Centre.

The Chilliwack Players Guild donated $10,000 for upgrades to the Rotary Hall Studio Theatre on Monday, Jan. 13.

The money comes following a successful year for the guild, and it will fund improvements to the venue's seating, enhancing comfort and accessibility for patrons.

"We are delighted to give back to the Rotary Hall Studio Theatre, a space that has been integral to our productions and the development of local theatre in Chilliwack," said Clint Hames of the Chilliwack Players Guild.

"Thanks to the support we’ve received from the Chilliwack Foundation, our sponsors, and loyal audiences, 2024 has been an overwhelmingly successful season. This donation ensures the venue remains a welcoming and accessible space for future generations of performers and theatre-goers alike."

Jean-Louis Bleau, executive director of the Chilliwack Cultural Centre, said the society is "deeply grateful" for the support.

"This donation not only enhances the physical space but also underscores the power of collaboration in strengthening Chilliwack’s arts scene. Together, we are ensuring that the Rotary Hall Studio Theatre continues to be a vibrant space for creativity, inspiration, and connection."

The Chilliwack Players Guild will be performing on the Rotary Hall Studio Theatre stage when they present radio play French Poison on Jan. 18. The play is a true-crime story about a French woman accused of poisoning her husband in 1840. It was written by Austin Stone and submitted to the BBC in 1954, but due to a run time of an hour and 15 minutes, it was turned down as their maximum time was one hour.

Saturday, Jan. 18 will be the first time French Poison has ever been heard or seen since it was written 71 years ago. There will be two performances, one at 1 p.m. and another at 3 p.m. Tickets are $15 and available at the Chilliwack Cultural Centre, online at chilliwackculturalcentre.ca, or by calling 604-391-SHOW.
