Most people tend to be a little in the dark about bats.
A new exhibition is shedding light on the wonderful world of B.C. bats at the Chilliwack Museum.
Bats: Out of the Darkness opened on Oct. 31, with bat-related stories, info and photos that make a compelling reminder of how essential bats are to the environment.
The exhibit was thoughtfully developed by scientists and environmental educators, including chiropterologists which is the term for bat experts, and Syilx/Okanagan Nation reps, with a goal of illuminating the topic of the bats, according to the details from Kelowna Museums.
It's a chance to celebrate the amazing creatures with a bit of a reputation, and foster stewardship across B.C.
Part of the goal is inspiring the public to see these unique mammals as worthy of protection, say the creators.
The focus on local species and resources provides visitors with relatable content and should motivate some to get involved in protecting bats and bat habitats.
"The Chilliwack Museum & Archives would like to thank Nature Chilliwack for providing generous funding and display material for Bats: Out of Darkness. We would also like to thank the Fraser Valley Regional Library for supplying a Bat Pack for display."
