A minor fire was extinguished at the top of a power pole on Young Road at Henley Avenue early Monday (Sept. 18) in Chilliwack.

The fire caused the electrical equipment to fail and a BC Hydro power outage affecting about 155 households was reported.

Chilliwack Fire Department crews were on-scene just before 7 a.m. putting out safety cones and waiting for a BC Hydro crew to arrive. Hydro crews were working to restore power.

It is not known what caused the wooden utility pole to ignite but it was put out quickly. Embers could be seen burning at the top of the pole, which was emitting wisps of smoke but no flames.
