Chilliwack Chamber of Commerce hosts election debate April 27

Chilliwack and Agassiz residents get a chance to here from local provincial election candidates 12 days before the May 9 at an all-candidate meeting at the Best Western Rainbow Country-Inn.

The Chilliwack Chamber of Commerce is hosting the April 27 debate for candidates in both local electoral districts: Chilliwack and Chilliwack-Kent.

“Keeping in mind the importance of a provincial election, this debate will be open for everyone to attend,” Chamber executive director Fieny van den Boom said. “This debate will be designed to promote and facilitate substantive, interactive, in-depth public discussions of candidate positions and proposals.”

All candidates appearing on the ballot have been invited to participate in this debate.

Van den Boom said that for the Chilliwack riding, attendance has been confirmed by: Wayne Froese (Green Party), John Martin (BC Liberal Party), and Ryan McKinnon (Independent).

For Chilliwack-Kent: Patti MacAhonic (NDP) and Laurie Throness (BC Liberal Party).

Tracey O’Hara (NDP) running in Chilliwack and Josie Bleuer (Green Party) running in Chilliwack-Kent are unable to attend.

The debate will be held at the Best Western Rainbow Country-Inn with registration beginning at 11:30 a.m. There will be a plated lunch at noon (members $25, non-members $35).

Doors open to the general public (no lunch) at 12:20 p.m. with the opening debate at 12:25 p.m.
