Chilliwack’s best in business was celebrated Saturday night in a glitzy affair at the Chilliwack Cultural Centre.
The 2024 Business Excellence Awards took over the venue, with a reception and after-party in the lobby, special musical offerings and an oyster bar inside the art gallery, and the pinnacle of the night - the awards themselves - taking place on the theatre stage. The event was organized by the Chilliwack Chamber of Commerce, and marked 29 years of recognizing excellence in local business.
The winners for 2024 are: Creekside Cheese & Creamery for Agricultural Excellence, Cultus Lake Golf Club for Service Excellence; Qualitree Propagators for Innovation Excellence; Mystical Eagle Carvings for Indigenous Business of the Year; Chilliwack and District Seniors’ Resources Society for Not for Profit; Chilliwack Chiefs for Community Impact; Platinum Electric for Environmental Stewardship; Smoking Gun Coffee Roasters for New Business of the Year; A&G Fencing for Small Business of the Year; Bannister Auto Group Chilliwack for Large Business of the Year; Jessie Ramsay for Business Leader of the Year;
One of the highlights of the night was when the Chilliwack Chiefs staff were invited on stage for their award, with the noticeable absence of any of the team’s players.
Barry Douglas, team governor and vice-president, explained that it was a game night, and the team was falling behind the West Kelowna Warriors at that moment. They turned a camera onto the audience and had everyone cheer “Go Chiefs Go” to help cheer them on. The team ended up pulling out a 3-2 win by the end of the night.
