Original story

Harrison Hot Springs and Agassiz firefighters are on the scene of what’s described as an “emergency brush fire” north of the village.

According to scanner traffic, at approximately 9:50 p.m. on Thursday (May 18), firefighters from both departments were dispatched one kilometre up Hicks Lake Forest Service Road near Rockwell Drive in the District of Kent.

Two engines and two command vehicles have been sent to the scene.

While the province has banned Category 2 and 3 burns, campfires were not banned ahead of the Victoria Day weekend.

It’s unclear how large the fire is, and it has not yet appeared on the B.C. Wildfire Service map as a wildfire as of 10:30 p.m.

More to come.
