Two Chilliwack community organizations are collecting blankets and winter items to hand out to those on the streets in January and February.
Inclusion Chilliwack Society is being joined by Pacific Community Resources Society (PCRS) in collecting blankets and warm-winter clothing items with two dropoff locations on the north side of Chilliwack to help those experiencing homelessness.
"The idea is to try to keep some unhoused people warm this winter," said Jennifer Kennedy, outreach manager for Inclusion Chilliwack Society. "It's to lend a hand."
About three to five per cent of Kennedy's outreach clients are homeless or at risk of it, so the blankets-and-more drive is to address some of those issues.
The Inclusion Chilliwack Society, formerly known as the Chilliwack Society for Community Living, is a non-profit organization and a registered charity that supports adults with developmental disabilities, children and youth with support needs and their families in the Chilliwack and surrounding areas since 1954.
Anyone wishing to drop off new or clean blankets, as well as socks, hats and gloves, can go to either: the Inclusion Chilliwack Society outreach office at #25-8635 Young Road, or to the PCRS office at 45921 Hocking Avenue.
