In a world that is being infiltrated with artificial intelligence (AI), students and the community were invited to submit their AI-assisted creations to be put on display at the S’eliyemetaxwtexw Gallery at the University of the Fraser Valley Abbotsford campus.
The public is invited to explore the display from March 13 - April 4.
Student Finn Toews argues in a written piece that human inspiration and art creation is not so different from AI art generation.
“In the same way AI has access to a database of information, we have access to a bank of memories,” Toews says.
The innovative exhibit shows physical art, but also presents digital art on a projector screen. The artwork showcases many different concepts that challenge the traditional notions of creativity.
The student artwork was produced by the media arts program in the winter semester. The assignment was to take a stock image and transform it using any generative AI method.
