An arctic outflow warning was issued for Hope and area Monday morning (Feb. 3).

Environment Canada's warning said to expect strong outflow winds and cold wind chill values near -20C, due to an arctic airmass.

The conditions are expected to improve this afternoon.

They are warning that frostbite and hypothermia can occur within minutes if adequate precautions are not taken when outdoors, and to minimize exposure with proper winter clothing.

Environment Canada issues arctic outflow warnings when bitterly cold air flows from the Interior to Coastal communities and the outflow winds create wind chill values of -20 or less for six hours or more.

Hope and Chilliwack were spared from the snow that fell throughout much of the Lower Mainland overnight, and schools remain open in both the Chilliwack and Fraser Cascade school district.
