Two inmates were recently charged in relation to a stabbing that occurred in July 2024 at Matsqui Institution in Abbotsford.
Skyler Clow, 29, and Shayan Khan, 28, have each been charged with aggravated assault. Court records say the charges were laid Jan.10.
Sgt. Paul Walker, media officer with the Abbotsford Police Department, said police were called on July 4 of last year at about 2:30 p.m. to Matsqui Institution.
Two inmates were reported to have stabbed another inmate several times in the prison courtyard.
Walker said the 52-year-old victim was airlifted to hospital with serious injuries that were not life-threatening.
According to court records, Clow was sentenced in October 2023 in Powell River to 4.5 years in prison after being convicted of two counts of drug trafficking (fentanyl and methamphetamine) and one count of possessing a loaded, prohibited firearm.
Clow also has prior convictions for resisting a peace officer, breaching his conditions, assault and driving while suspended.
Provincial court records indicate that Khan was charged in 2017 with three counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking.
He was charged the following year with six drug possession and trafficking charges, as well as two gun offences.
Both cases moved to BC Supreme Court, but the outcome is not posted in online records.
RCMP in Manitoba announced in December 2020 that Khan had been arrested and charged in relation to the seizure of a loaded handgun, 189 grams of cocaine, cash and drug paraphernalia from a Brandon residence.
The outcome of that case is also not posted online.
