'Unveiled' show in Chilliwack will focus on women's strength, resilience

Valley Babes from Chilliwack join aerialists from NZR Productions for Chilliwack Cultural Centre show

A Chilliwack musical group and Vancouver aerial performers will come together for a show that will shine a light on "feminine strength and resilience," according to one performer.

The Valley Babes from Chilliwack will team up with circus company NZR Productions and take the stage with their ethereal performance, Unveiled: A Musical Tapestry of Women’s Strength, on March 21 at the Chilliwack Cultural Centre.

“The Valley Babes are thrilled to expand beyond our usual music and comedy space, where we’ve proudly won a Chillie Award, and venture into darker, more nuanced territory with this show,” said Emily Hamel, Valley Babes founder, artistic director and performer. “The evening will be a tribute to feminine strength and resilience during times when speaking out was perilous.”

Performing onstage with them will be silk aerialists from NZR Productions, a circus company renowned for specialty acts and stage shows.

“Unveiled is a collaborative performance featuring The Valley Babes, aerialists from NZR Productions, and the Chilliwack Cultural Centre,” Hamel said. “Valley Babes choreographer Pauline and I have worked closely with the cultural centre's executive director to curate a set list that deeply resonates with the evening's themes. We are incredibly proud of the story we are telling through songs that range from artists like Tori Amos to pieces based on medieval poetry performed in Old and Middle English.”

Unveiled: A Musical Tapestry of Women’s Strength is coming to the Chilliwack Cultural Centre on March 21 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $32, with Patron Program discounts available, and can be purchased at the Centre Box Office, online at chilliwackculturalcentre.ca, or by calling 604-391-SHOW(7469).
