People will hear "incredibly beautiful" music when a vocalist brings his classical Indian music performance to Chilliwack, he said.
Vocal Tapestry - An Evening of Hindustani Music featuring Akhil Jobanputra is coming to the Chilliwack Cultural Centre on Nov. 3.
“This is my first time performing in Chilliwack, and it’s a privilege to be performing in a space that’s been dedicated to providing a breadth of performing arts events to the local community,” Jobanputra said. “I will be presenting Raga Salagvarali Todi which is an uncommon contemporary raga (musical mode) that is incredibly beautiful and sonically immersive.”
Jobanputra is one of CBC’s 'Top 30 Under 30 Musicians' and he will showcase the rich traditions and emotional landscapes of Hindustani classical music.
“I’ve picked this because I wanted to present something special for the Chilliwack audience, and it’s a raga that carries a lot of emotional depth and harmonic flavours that I believe the audience will resonate with. I’m going to follow this up with a shorter piece that comes from a temple-music tradition called Haveli Sangeet, in an uplifting and lilting raga called Jaijaivanti.”
Vocal Tapestry - An Evening of Hindustani Music is coming to the Chilliwack Cultural Centre on Nov. 3 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $32, with Patron Program discounts available, and can be purchased at the Centre Box Office, online at chilliwackculturalcentre.ca, or by calling 604-391-SHOW(7469).
