A musician is looking for fellow tuba and euphonium players to serenade shoppers in downtown Chilliwack while raising money for charity this holiday season.
Zachary Power is bringing Chilliwack's first ever Tuba Christmas to District 1881 on Dec. 15.
"Local musicians, including high school students, will get together to play carols on tubas and euphoniums to spread cheer, promote awareness of how beautiful our instruments can be, and to raise money for the Chilliwack SPCA," he said.
Tuba Christmas is a continent-wide tradition that started in New York City 50 years ago in honour of teacher, mentor and tuba player William J. Bell who was born on Christmas Day.
Power organized a Tuba Christmas in Salmon Arm in 2022 and 2023 and it "delighted all who encountered it at our downtown holiday market," he added.
He's now hoping more tuba and euphonium players from across the Fraser Valley will register to play that afternoon.
Tuba Christmas will take place on Sunday, Dec. 15 at 2 p.m. in District 1881. It'll be about one hour long.
Musicians can register at forms.gle/SWD3HMa5DsvVXUXe6.
"Come and peruse the shops and stalls while musicians serenade you with tubas and euphoniums to spread holiday cheer and raise money for the BC SPCA."
