A Chilliwack author is launching his third novel, and this one is unlike his his first two.
Raymond Maher will have a book signing for his new book Trapped at Birth with Only One Way Out on Friday, Nov. 8.
"It's a suspense, thriller, and mystery about a man on the run from two deadly enemies," Maher said. "It is a complete genre change from my first two historical fiction novels about the 1858 Fraser River Gold Rush."
His fascination with family interactions was the inspiration this most recent book. Maher challenges the myth that families are ordinarily happy and safe environments, and zeros in on a toxic fictional family that successfully deceives their community that they are normal.
His book launch on Friday, Nov. 8 is at the Chilliwack Curling Club (9291 Corbould St) from. 9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m., and $1 for every book sold will support the curling club's junior program.
The novel was edited by fellow Chilliwack author Frank Talaber, and the two are members of the Lower Mainland Writers Group.
"Our goal is to encourage each other, from beginners to seasoned authors. Anyone interested is invited to join us," Maher said.
Maher will be at several other locations and events throughout November and into December with his book:
- Saturday, Nov. 9 and Saturday, Nov. 16 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church (8871 School St.) from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day
- Saturday, Nov. 30 at the Chilliwack Opportunity Society's Christmas Fair from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 10135 Williams Rd.
- Friday, Dec. 6 to Sunday, Dec. 8 at the Christmas Gifts Expo at Chilliwack Heritage Park (7590 Lickman Rd.)
