Chillith Fair is back for a second time around, with an evening of all-female performances in the Vineyard Centre downtown Chilliwack.
The all-ages show is once again presented by chillsounds, on May 30.
The event was created last year, as a way to showcase local women artists, with a nod to Lilith Fair. That music festival was founded by Canadian musician Sarah McLachlan and others, celebrating women in music. It took place during the summers of 1997, 1998 and 1999 in several Canadian and U.S. cities, and was revived in the summer of 2010.
This year's lineup includes Lori Paul, The Valley Babes, Pretty Good Together and The Piper Twins.
Singer-songwriter Lori Paul is one-half of Spiderlodge, alongside her husband Rick Genge. The duo just recently released their folk-rock album Canadiana, with a sold-out debut party at the Vineyard.
Paul said they are both looking forward to being back in the Vineyard Centre for the upcoming show.
Pretty Good Together is another act that chillsounds director Berris Karden is thrilled about. The group features Jenny Coleman, the 2024 Chillies Award winner for new artist, and Alexis Beer, a 2024 Chillies-Award-nominee. Beer is also part of the much-loved group The Maybelles.
Their combined vocals and Coleman's guitar together provide rich harmonies on songs you know and love, as well as fresh takes on new music. They do acoustic covers of tunes from the '60s to present day in a variety of genres. They say it all started when they sang the Wheatus classic ‘Teenage Dirtbag’ together at an open mic night and thought “Hey… we sound pretty good together!"
"One year, lots of practice, and many performances later, here we are," their bio says.
"From where chillsounds sits, "'pretty good together' is an understatement," Karden said.
And then there is the Valley Babes," a collective group of Fraser Valley performers.
"We've been performing together for a little over 10 years, combining our comic and musical skills, with a touch of drama on the side from time to time," their bio says. "Specializing in cover tunes and parodies, our layered harmonies give a fresh take on old favourites. We love what we do, and we hope to keep making people smile for another decade to come."
Chillith Fair will also be a chance to see The Piper Twins, Megan & Jade Piper, gracing the chillsounds stage for the very first time.
For more on each group, follow chillsounds on Facebook. The event begins at 7 p.m.
Tickets are $20 for seniors and youth, $25 for adults, available at: https://tinyurl.com/mra3pzs9
