People look at items for sale on Nov. 30, 2024 during 'A Gift of Art,' a fundraiser exhibition by the Chilliwack Visual Artists Association at the Chilliwack Cultural Centre.

A group of artists from Chilliwack and the surrounding area are giving the gift of their talents this holiday season.

The Chilliwack Visual Artists Association presents exhibition fundraiser 'A Gift of Art' in the O'Connor Group Art Gallery at the Chilliwack Cultural Centre now until Dec. 21.

It's a show made up of dozens of pieces of artwork donated by the members.

Each artist could donate up to three pieces, and all money raised from the sale of the artwork goes to Chilliwack Community Services.

The association has done community outreach before, but not to this extent. And at the opening reception on Nov. 30, artists said they were pleased with its success so far.

"Lot's have sold, so we're really happy," said member Christine Newsome.

There's another way for people to donate to Chilliwack Community Services at the show.

Hung on one wall of the gallery is a white canvas with dozens of sticky notes attached to it, each with a monetary value on it. When someone donates the amount written on the piece of paper, they remove the sticky note and draw a small picture on the canvas where the paper was attached.

It's called 'A Community Drawn Together' and the idea came from artist Travis Clarke.

"I was trying to figure out – especially for a charity event – something a little bit more interactive for the community to show their support, show their creativity," he said.

'A Gift of Art' by the Chilliwack Visual Artists Association is at the Chilliwack Cultural Centre from Nov. 27 to Dec. 21. Gallery hours are noon to 5 p.m. Wednesday to Saturday.
