Has anyone else noticed the sharp increase in property taxes this year? In the Nov 3, 2016 issue of The Times, it was noted city Hall was going for an increase of 3.5 per cent for our 2017 taxes. When I received my tax notice this year I realized our taxes had increased from $2379.72 to $2700.10 for this year.
Because my math skills have dwindled over the years similar to my income, I bought a calculator and started to do some math. Wow. My increase this year is closer to 13.5 per cent, not 3.5 per cent. Out of curiosity I went back to my 2012 tax bill and I was charged $1971.21 for that year. From then to now, I worked out that my taxes have increased a total of 37 per cent over five years.
I just can’t wait to see what kind of spin the mayor will have to justify this kind of increase.
