Improvements are on the way for the Cedar Valley Connector intersection in Mission.
Construction will begin this July to upgrade the Lougheed Highway (Highway 7) and Highway 11 intersection, per an NDP news release on Wednesday (June 12).
A $5 million contract was awarded to B.A. Blacktop Infrastructure Inc. Construction for the project, which is expected to be completed by October.
The upgrades will include an additional left turn lane from Highway 11 onto Lougheed Highway towards Maple Ridge. The westbound Highway 7 left turn lane towards Mission Bridge and Abbotsford will also increase its capacity.
Trucks will have an increased turning radius with modifications to traffic islands in the intersection.
New road signs will be added while others will be relocated. Meanwhile, lighting and traffic signals will also be improved to support changes.
Roadway drainage will be improved to accommodate the new-look lanes as well.
Abbotsford-Mission MLA Pam Alexis says both Highway 7 and 11 are essential routes for the region.
"Progress on this project means more highway capacity and a safer, easier journey for everyone," Alexis said in a news release.
Maple Ridge-Mission MLA Bob D'Eith says improvements to Lougheed Highway are making things easier for people in Mission.
"These additional changes at the Cedar Valley Connector intersection will help make things even more seamless for drivers and help keep people safe," D'Eith said.
Construction on the intersection will take place during the nighttime, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Lighting and noise from equipment could impact locals.
