Inmate taken to hospital after assault at Mission Institution

Alleged attacker identified, Correctional Service of Canada says

An inmate at the medium security unit of Mission Institution was allegedly assaulted on Saturday (March 8). 

According to a news release from the Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) on Wednesday (March 12), the inmate was taken to hospital for treatment after an evaluation from staff. 

No other inmates or staff members were injured during this incident.

The alleged attacker was identified and "appropriate actions have been taken", per the release. 

Mission RCMP and Mission Institution are investigating the incident. 

"The safety and security of institutions, their staff, and the public remains the highest priority in the operations of the federal correctional system," the CSC said. 

"In order to improve practices aimed at preventing this type of incident, the Correctional Service of Canada will review the circumstances of the incident and take the appropriate measures."
