Popove elected mayor in Chilliwack

Gaetz second, Waddington third; new faces on city council

There will be a new mayor in Chilliwack, and new faces around the council table and on Chilliwack school board.

Two-time former city councillor Ken Popove emerged the winner of a hotly contested race, beating incumbent mayor Sharon Gaetz and fellow councillor Sam Waddington to secure the win.

Dave Rowan and Brigida Crosbie followed a distant fourth and fifth respectively.

On council, incumbents Jason Lum, Chris Kloot and Sue Attrill retained their seats.

They’ll be joined by newcomers Bud Mercer, Jeff Shields and Harv Westeringh.
