Hope local, Arthur Green, has announced his Green Party candidacy in the Chilliwack-Hope riding in Canada’s upcoming 44th federal election.

With the support of the Green Party of Canada’s Electoral District Association and hundreds of supporters throughout the Eastern Fraser Valley, Green says his number one issue going into this election will be addressing the man-made climate changes, and the adverse affects climate change has on our health, the economy, and the possible collapse of environmental ecosystems.

A keen follower of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, Green believes there are no other issue that is more important to the planet and the generations that will follow us.

We are closely narrowing the gap between a livable planet and destruction of all its habitable environment, Green said in his candidacy announcement.

“If we are to survive as a civilization, we must electrify our energy systems and immediately put an end to burning fossil fuels. As difficult as this may sound, we must reach net zero carbon emissions by 2050 if we wish to keep the planet habitable.

“We can also look at this as an opportunity for economic growth. The transition to clean and renewable energy systems will be the greatest economic catalyst that the world will ever see.

“Good luck to all the candidates as we vigorously debate these crucial issues,” Green concluded.

In the 2019 election won by Conservative Mark Strahl, Green finished fourth with 9.8 per cent of the vote.
