A Chilliwack woman is sharing four pieces of artwork by local artists and a famous retired hockey player in celebration of the 2022 Beijing Olympics and Lunar New Year.

Both events were celebrated around the world this week. On Feb. 1, people rang in the Lunar New Year, also known as Chinese New Year. The opening ceremony for the Olympics was on Feb. 3.

Asai Wu-Brandt, who has organized several international art exhibitions in the past, contacted The Progress to share the works of three artists: Errol Brimacome and Patricia Jaster of Chilliwack, and retired hockey player Richard Brodeur who played for the Vancouver Canucks from 1980 to 1988.

She’s hoping folks will “celebrate the new year and welcome the Winter Olympics” with the artwork.

The pieces were part of an online exhibition called Cloud Exhibition of International Famous Artists’ Art Works, presented by the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries.

A total of 43 countries and 115 artists participated in this exhibition, featuring a total of 126 works.

“Sports and art are borderless,” Wu-Brandt said.

Folks can see the exhibition online.
