A man who went to Chilliwack secondary nearly 30 years ago has won a Grammy Award.
Bernie Herms, a 1990 CSS grad, won best contemporary Christian music performance/song for Thy Will by Hillary Scott and the Scott Family at the 59th annual Grammy Awards last month.
His sister, Karin Herms Kunert, who lives in Chilliwack, was over the moon to hear about the win.
“Congratulations, my amazingly gifted and dear brother, Bernie, on your first Grammy win,” Kunert wrote on social media. “So thrilled for you, and so proud of how you give all honour to Jesus in all you do and say! I always knew some day would find you here. What a privilege and blessing to have grown up listening to your beautiful and inspiring music — the result of your phenomenal talent, hard work, and the incredible person you are.”
Herms was born in London, Ont. grew up in Edmonton, and moved to Chilliwack in 1987 at the age of 15. He currently lives in Nashville.
Those who knew him from CSS were commenting about the win on social media saying he’s “amazingly talented and such a humble guy” and “great piano player and trumpet player”.
“Not surprising at all, he was always so passionate and talented with music,” wrote one person.
“I always knew he’d do something great with his music. He played piano at church and had an amazing talent,” wrote another.
Herms is a producer and songwriter who has worked with artists such as Josh Groban, Barbra Streisand, Selena Gomez, Andrea Bocelli, Kelly Clarkson, Hillary Scott (of Lady Antebellum), David Foster, Brad Paisley, Jackie Evancho, Ruben Studdard, The Tenors, Casting Crowns, Natalie Grant, Danny Gokey, Amy Grant, Steven Curtis Chapman, and many more.
