The classic songs of a country music icon will be performed by one of the genre’s modern sensations at the Chilliwack Cultural Centre this spring, when Lisa Brokop – The Patsy Cline Project swings by on Apr. 19.

A spellbinding journey to the heyday of country music, woven together with some of Lisa’s top hits, this show will transport you to a time when Patsy Cline’s unforgettable voice helped define the Nashville sound, and celebrate her life and music through one of the women who was inspired to follow her footsteps, Lisa Brokop.

Brokop’s career has been a tribute to her love of music. And over the course of more than 25 years on stage and in the studio, Brokop has sung every note with passion. Now with this show, she pays homage to one of the artists who first influenced her to pick up the microphone.

“I have always loved traditional country music and some of the first songs I ever learned were by Patsy Cline,” said Brokop. “With this project, I wanted to go back to my roots and come full circle, looking back to the music that has inspired me the most.”

Brokop is not the only one for whom Patsy Cline’s music holds a special place. Unforgettable hits such as Sweet Dreams, Strange, and of course, Walkin’ After Midnight feature in the show, and as Brokop says, her love of performing these and other treasured songs is matched only by the audience’s connection to Cline’s legacy, which for many, is sentimental as well as musical.

“We will be doing many of the Patsy Cline classics as well as some of my own songs,” Brokop continues. “There will be stories and some history behind the music, with a visual component to the show—images of Patsy and her music—that people can follow as they listen.

“I love to watch audience members when they hear their favourite song start to play. It’s very nostalgic for some. For lots of people these songs can take them back to a special time in their lives, or those fond memories hearing them for the first time.”

And with her B.C. roots, as well as being a tribute to her early inspirations and one of the pioneering voices of country music, this show is something of a homecoming for Brokop.

“I’m always excited to come to the Lower Mainland. I’m from Surrey, so playing in the Fraser Valley always feels like a hometown show—I’m looking forward to seeing some family and friends in Chilliwack!”

Lisa Brokop – The Patsy Cline Project will be at the Chilliwack Cultural Centre on Apr. 19. The show starts at 7:30 p.m., and tickets start at $35 for adults, and can be purchased at the Centre Box Office, online at www.chilliwackculturalcentre.ca, or by calling 604-391-SHOW(7469).
