Spring has sprung at the Ranger Station Art Gallery. The Kent Harrison Arts Council is presenting a bright season of shows, and everyone is invited.
All students from Kindergarten to Grade 12 in the Kent-Harrison area were invited to enter artwork into our annual Young at Art show, which is our way of celebrating BC Arts and Culture Week. The aim of this annual event is to bring people together to celebrate the great life-enhancing value that arts and culture bring to us all. The arts are part of everyday life. If you watch TV, go to the movies, enjoy a landscape painting in a dentist’s office or listen to music, you are participating in the arts, but what the BC Arts Council aims to do with BC Arts and Culture Week is to highlight the art and culture that is going on right in your own backyard by people you may know personally.
Locally, we strive to encourage young people to get involved in art by offering them this unique opportunity to have their work displayed in a public art gallery. The public is invited to come into the Ranger Station Art Gallery at 98 Rockwell Drive to view all the wonderful artwork by many talented students in the area and to vote for their favourites.
The gallery is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekdays and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on weekends and holidays. On April 27 at 2 p.m. we will host a reception and awards ceremony. Refreshments will be served and everyone is invited to attend. Young at Art takes place all across the province from April 21-27. In May, a small group of extremely talented young artists from Seabird Island will be presenting their work at the gallery. The show will be curated by teacher and artist Jonathan Sutton, and the artists’ reception will be on May 4 at 2 p.m.
June is when our annual Artist in Residence show held. This year’s Artist in Residence, Anouk Jonker will present a wonderful selection of paintings in oil in the Impressionist style. More details about Jonker and her work will be forthcoming as we approach the opening date for her show, which is on June 1 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
